ben beal x lonemoon - wrds
Fresh out of Oklahoma comes this thought provoking hip hop track - a collab between Ben Beal and producer lonemoon. Known for his, "peaceful & ethereal" beats, this one simmers along simply with the old head nod drum clacks you'd expect.
What we love is the way in which the beat complements Beal's voice. With that clear, new wave New York inflection in his words, his vocals crackle gently like old vinyl. The influences of artists like Clear Soul Forces and tamer Joey Bada$$ are evident, though you can't hate - Beal's still only 18, his own voice is still forming.
Keep your eyes on this guy, he's going places.
You don't want to be sleeping on the producer either. lonemoon's hip hop style is timeless. He knows how to take a simple loop and filter it into your synapses, pairing it with silken drum claps.
Listening to lonemoon's back catalogue, the range of influences he has, and styles he's produced is mad. From the Hip Hop above, to the theremin dosed track "the girl with the starry eyes", there's a stark difference in tone and concept. "booty police" (embedded here) begins in a synthy cocaine dream, strays into a bass thumping Evil Nine track and stumbles onto Lon Lon Ranch. Give it a listen to see what the hell I'm talking about. Hopefully.
