London Collection: Men SS17: Day One
Year after year London holds more events than you can shake a stick at. From the Excel to Wembley Arena, and every road in between, we're inundated with things to attend, Facebook invites and posters lining the streets. It can be a little much sometimes, can't it? But every now and then something special happens. Something you just can't refuse. And this is one of them. With a long weekend of the latest trends in men's fashion and partying ahead, the new SS17 collection is big, bold and brash.
Thanks to Village (you guys are cool), we had access to all the shows across London. Taking in as many as we could, the talent on display from these young designers is more than exciting.
Over the past 9-12 months brands, designers and marketing companies have been planning how this weekend will make our jaws drop. From the sneak preview we have seen it's was going to be one to remember. So It's Friday late afternoon, London is shutting down its computers and closing its offices. But for those working in fashion, it's going to be not stop snapping, sharing, writing, drinking, dancing, taking, hugging, jaw dropping long weekend till Monday comes rolling around again. It's going to be pure carnage.
CMMN SWDN - Market Rodeo SS17
I went to the CMMN SWDN presentation on Friday evening which was an eye opener. I have seen their stuff before, but the SS17 looks a lot different from what's on the shelves today; they're taking their range in an exciting new direction. After spending a good hour sipping back a few bitter lemon cocktails, and admiring the collection from every angle, we managed to find Saif Bakir, designer and owner of CMMN SWDN in the crowd and pulled him away for a quick chat about the collection and why is it so different.
After a recent trip to Morocco with his soon-to-be wife, Emma Hedlund, they brought back the vibrant and colourful street markets of Marrakech's to inspire their SS17 collection.
We really liked the stuffy warm air that smelled of exotic spices, and the chaotic mixture of colours, texture and materials.
For us at NKN, the one to look out for is at the bottom gallery, top middle row - that cashmere-panelled jacket with brining on the hem is banging.
Looking at the collection, you somehow get the sense of rolling sand dunes and bleating camels. A heroin holiday in the heart of Bedouin country. All the cool kids in their shades of ochre, ash grey and nude, gathered around a bubbling brown liquid and acrid hashish smoke. Sizzles fill the air along with the sound of a cloak wavering in the winds. Thick slaps of denim and the soft skin touch of cashmere. Buckled black belts, the velvet frills of a crushed overcoat. The beating sun, the crackling of rasped voices and the jangle of the key holder's keys.

After the presentation we went to a few after parties; Gentleman's Blogger at the W hotel and Lover's Boy party in Dalston, but for me it was all about the Mexican restaurant right at the end. Sol, mariachi and finely dressed women. Felt like I was in Playa del Carmen but with the view of Dalston (if we liked emoji's then it would be a very drunk face). Until tomorrow, adios.
