As a workaholic it’s hard to stop and relax, and to enjoy the joys of life whilst on holiday when messages are pouring through my phone from back home. So it goes that I was in Mykonos at the tail end of the summer, and scrolling through my Instagram notifications when I came across N0.47 London. Something piqued my interest and I had to see more.
Now as you will know, the internet connection on remote Greek beaches isn’t the best, so after a cold bottle of Mythos and a 20 minute wait for their website to load, was it worth my time?
Well, it would be a little ridiculous if I wrote that whole opening just to slate the brand wouldn’t it? Or wouldn’t it?
Once back in town, I set about meeting their managing director Oscar at their headquarters in Shoreditch.
N0.47 London – The Story
N0.47 London started in January 2016, driven by a Devonian called Oscar. At the age of only 22 he has traveled the world, seen the sites and, most importantly, worked in the blood raising career of sales and marketing. Having seen just about all he needed of the world of advertising at least, he decided to let his passion for men’s jewellery take over instead.
Quitting the machine, he began N0.47 London with the clear goal to challenge the reservations behind men’s jewellery. And meeting this young man, you can’t help but feel that this could be someone to make a statement in the men’s fashion industry. There’s a determination there that many company directors simply don’t have.
Design & Aesthetic
We took a sneak peak at the forthcoming range and were pleasantly surprised by the quality on display. The rings, necklaces and bracelets all have that authentic weight to them – the weight of real solid silver. And with a 40 strong collection, with now two pieces the same, there’s something for everyone’s tastes.
So where did the inspiration come from?
It was all thanks to a trip to Botswana where Oscar met a designer called Peter Hepburn who was creating hand crafted gold and sliver bracelets using recycled elephant hair. This trip gave Oscar the ambition to extend his search further afield and find the perfect pieces to complete the brand. Now working with a further several professional designers across the world, the emphasis for N0.47 London is on finding even more high quality craftsmanship.
Number 47 is the atomic number for silver, with the brand only using the finest quality, fair trade silver from Africa. And with each piece hand crafted using tiny little hammers, this is high grade gear that you won’t find on the high street.
Not content to simply sell great Jewellery, N0.47 London want to give back too. Working closely with the elephant protection charity Tusk, they aim to give a percentage of their profits from their elephant hair bracelets to the cause. Nice.
Good guys, great gear and a cool collection. We’d suggest snapping these up before you find them on the fingers of the French illuminati or, worse yet, your own friends.
