This is the first in our series of unknown artists brought to us by Art Unlocked. If you're reading this, you're either from the future, or you're with us from the very beginning. Either way, welcome, and let's get to know some seriously talented artists.
Every week we're going to bring you a new piece, hand chosen by the curators at Art Unlocked - a company whose passion is to find affordable, unique artworks and to promote the up and coming artists who create them. They're frankly, right up our street, and a lovely bunch of chaps.
So, to begin. This week we bring you a surreal, colourful mindscape layered with urban and natural influences. Awash with bleeding hearts, muddy earth and fiery pits, it's a nose dive through the atmosphere and deep into the planet.
In the Words of Art Unlocked
We love the strong use of colours. What we think is incredible about this piece is the artist's ability to use such a large palette without creating catastrophic clashes or descending into nausea. As your eyes move around the painting, more textures seem to waver into being and blend back into obscurity... We can see this piece in an office waiting room, or living space. Somewhere you can sit and let its fantastical shades and shapes bleed into your mind.
About James Taylor
Born in South Wales, James is an emerging artist whose abstract paintings take their inspiration from the high modernists, whilst retaining a contemporary edge, which is refreshing to behold. James has exhibited across London and Amsterdam, but often takes his practice out of the studio to run public art events.
